In December 2010 three San Diego parents analyzed Chapters 3 and 4 of the textbook “World History: Medieval to Early Modern Times” published by Holt, Rinehart, Winston and written by Burnstein and Shek. They concluded the textbook “romanticizes” Islam and suggested changes to the Seventh Grade World History curriculum.
In Spring 2011 another group of parents reviewed the document and determined it was biased against Islam due to sources cited, statements made out of context, and the generalization of exceptions.
A response addressing each of the issues brought up in the December 2010 document has been prepared based on scholarly sources. It can be downloaded here.
